If you want to become a teacher, you will now have to pass TET, a big decision of the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court clearly said that if a teacher wants a new job or promotion, then without passing the TET, none of his claims will be considered correct.
The Supreme Court today clarified in its order that passing the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) will be mandatory for all new teachers and those teachers already working who want promotion. The court clearly said that if a teacher wants a new job or promotion, then without passing the TET, none of his claims will be considered correct.
Relief to teachers with less than 5 years of service
The bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Manmohan said that teachers who have less than 5 years left in the job will not need to pass TET. They can remain on the job till retirement. However, if such teachers want to get promotion, then it will be mandatory for them to pass TET.
2 years time for old teachers
The court also directed that teachers who were appointed before the Right to Education Act (2009) came into force and who have more than 5 years of service left, will have to pass the TET within two years. If they are unable to do so, they will have to lose their jobs. Such teachers will get only terminal benefits.
This order will not be applicable to educational institutions with minority status for now
Giving relief to educational institutions with minority status, the Supreme Court said that for now this order will not be applicable to them. The court said that whether the RTE Act applies to minority schools or not is currently a legal question pending with the larger bench of the Supreme Court. Until a final decision is taken on this, TET will not be mandatory for teachers of minority institutions.
