IELTS and TOEFL Comparison: In today's time, it has become very important to take higher education. Only a school or college degree is not enough, now every big company wants to give jobs only to educated and skilled people. This is the reason why many students of India nowadays are dreaming of studying not only in the country but also abroad. But to study abroad, it is very important to know English. There are two major international tests to test how good your grasp is in English - one is IELTS and the other is TOEFL. So let's know what these two tests are, what is the difference between them, and which test will be better for you.

What is IELTS?

IELTS i.e. International English Language Testing System, is an international English test that is mainly considered necessary for studies, jobs, or migration in countries like the UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. This test has four sections, listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The special thing about this is that the speaking test is done face-to-face with the examiner, which tests your ability to communicate. This test is in both paper-based and computer-based formats, and the score is given between 0 to 9 bands.

What is TOEFL?

The full form of TOEFL is the Test of English as a Foreign Language. This test is valid in most of the US, some European countries, and Asian universities. It also has four sections - reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The difference is that TOEFL is completely computer-based and for the speaking test, you do not have to speak in front of the examiner, but record your voice in the microphone. The total score in TOEFL is given out of 120.

What is the difference between IELTS and TOEFL?

Both IELTS and TOEFL are English language tests, but their method of giving the exam, scoring system, and language style are slightly different. British English is used more in TOEFL, while American English is used in TOEFL. In IELTS, the speaking test is done face-to-face, while in TOEFL, it is done on a computer. There is also a difference in scoring. IELTS has a band score, while in TOEFL, marks are given out of 120.

Which test will be right for you?

Now the question arises which of these two tests should you choose? If you want to study in America, then TOEFL will be right for you. On the other hand, if you are thinking of going to countries like the UK, Canada, or Australia, then it would be better to choose IELTS. Apart from this, if you are comfortable giving face-to-face interviews, then IELTS can be easier for you. On the other hand, if you are comfortable with technology and like to take tests on a computer, then TOEFL is a good option for you.
