ICAR CUET UG 2026: There's great news for students interested in pursuing careers in agriculture and allied sectors. Now, admissions to all state agricultural universities across the country will be available through ICAR CUET UG, not just at Central Agricultural Universities. For example, no student will be denied admission to a state agricultural university due to differing eligibility criteria. Following the initiative of Union Education Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, some significant changes have been made in this regard, as he himself has announced. Under these changes, 20% of undergraduate seats in all state agricultural universities across the country will be reserved for admissions based on ICAR CUET UG merit.

Let's explore the admission process at all agricultural universities across the country. What changes are being made following the initiative of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan?

Admission through ICAR CUET UG and University Entrance Test
The admission process for both central and state agricultural universities in the country currently varies. Currently, admission to a total of 71 agricultural universities and institutions, including three central universities, is based on the merit of the ICAR CUET UG, which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The admission process begins in March-April each year.

While different state agricultural universities across the country have different admission systems, with admissions based on the university entrance test and merit, the subject combinations for admission to the B.Sc. Agriculture at state universities also varies. Different state agricultural universities, based on their convenience, use a combination of marks in 12th grade (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Maths) for admission to B.Sc. Agriculture. This causes significant difficulties for students.

Students and parents had expressed concerns: Shivraj Singh Chouhan
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has addressed the difficulties faced by students due to differing admission rules at state agricultural universities. In a statement, he stated that students and their parents had expressed their concerns through various channels over the past few days regarding admission to the B.Sc. Agriculture.

He stated that due to different subject combinations in grade 12, different university admission rules, and varying eligibility criteria, many qualified students were unable to enroll in the B.Sc. Agriculture was being left behind. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that he had directed the Director General of Agriculture (DG-ICAR) and his team to address this issue.

20% of seats reserved for admission through ICAR CUET
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that the ICAR Director General and his team have discussed this issue with all Vice Chancellors and found a solution. Under this resolution, 20% of undergraduate seats in all state agricultural universities will now be filled through ICAR CUET UG. This will provide significant relief to agricultural students and their parents.
