HPSC HCS Mains Exam Pattern: This is very important news for candidates appearing in the Haryana Public Service Commission's PCS examination. The Haryana government has changed the rules for the Haryana Civil Service examination. Under these changes, the PCS (HCS) main examination pattern has been modified. After cabinet approval, the state government has also issued an official notification. Let's find out what changes have been made to the Mains exam pattern.
The Haryana Civil Service main examination, conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission, will now have an increased number of papers. Under the revised rules, the main written examination will now consist of 6 papers, totaling 600 marks. Previously, the Mains exam had only 4 papers. The new pattern includes two language papers and four General Studies papers.
The English paper will be of 100 marks and will include an English essay. The Hindi paper will also be of 100 marks and will include a Hindi essay. In addition to the language papers, there will be four General Studies papers, each worth 100 marks. These are designated as General Studies-I, General Studies-II, General Studies-III, and General Studies-IV.
The paper will be in two languages.
According to the revised rules, the question papers for the main examination will be prepared in both Hindi and English. One question paper will be in English, while the other will be in Hindi. The remaining four papers will cover General Studies subjects. All question papers for the main written examination will be of the traditional essay type. For more information, candidates can visit the commission's official website.
How will the selection be made?
Selection under the Haryana Civil Service will be based on the marks obtained in the main examination and interview, as before. Twelve times the number of advertised vacancies will be shortlisted for the main written examination, including candidates who have secured the same marks. For the interview, three times the number of advertised vacancies will be called. Ex-servicemen and dependents of ex-servicemen will have to appear in all papers of the main written examination without any exemption.
Minimum marks required for the interview:
To be eligible for the interview, candidates must secure a minimum of 45 percent marks in total across all written papers. Additionally, they must obtain a minimum of 33 percent marks in both the English and Hindi papers individually. However, if a sufficient number of candidates from the PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category are not available, the Haryana State Public Service Commission may reduce the overall qualifying marks from 45 percent to 35 percent. The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the main written examination and the interview, out of a total of 675 marks, along with the service preferences given by the candidates.
