How to Get Admission to Government Colleges in Madhya Pradesh? A Step-by-Step Guide..
MP UG-PG Admissions 2026: The admission process for Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) courses for the academic session 2026-27 is currently underway in government colleges across Madhya Pradesh. Students who have successfully passed their Class 12 examinations are applying to secure admission in their preferred colleges and courses at the undergraduate level. However, due to a lack of accurate information and awareness regarding key dates, many students miss out on securing admission to their desired colleges. In light of this, it is crucial to possess comprehensive knowledge regarding the admission process, important dates, and necessary precautions.
Dr. M.S. Chauhan, Principal of the Acharya Mandan Mishra Government College in Mandleshwar (Khargone), stated that the Department of Higher Education initiated the online admission process for UG and PG courses on May 1, 2026. The seat allotment list for the first phase was released on May 20. Students whose names appear in this initial list must deposit their fees online by the 26th of the month to confirm their allotted seats. Failure to deposit the fees will result in the automatic cancellation of the allotted seat, requiring the student to participate in the subsequent admission phase.
**An Opportunity in the Second Phase as Well**
Meanwhile, students who, for any reason, were unable to apply during the first phase—or whose names did not appear in the first merit list—are eligible to apply during the second phase. However, the level of competition tends to increase during this stage. According to the schedule released by the Department of Higher Education, registration for the second phase will be conducted from May 28 to June 3. Document verification is scheduled to take place from May 29 to June 4. Following this, the seat allotment list for UG courses will be released on June 7, and the list for PG courses on June 8. Selected students will be required to deposit their admission fees by June 13 to secure their seats.
**CLC Counseling to Follow**
Principal Dr. Chauhan further explained that, following the two online phases, a College Level Counseling (CLC) round will be conducted. During this process, admissions for any remaining vacant seats in the colleges will be granted directly at the college level. Depending on requirements and seat availability, the Department of Higher Education may also conduct more than one round of CLC. Students should regularly monitor the admission portal to ensure they do not miss out on any opportunities.
**Selection Based on Merit**
In Madhya Pradesh, the entire college admission process is conducted online. Students are required to register on the e-admission portal and fill in their personal and academic details. Following this, they must complete the "choice filling" process by selecting their preferred colleges and courses. Seat allocation is carried out based on a merit list prepared according to the marks obtained in Class 12 or the relevant qualifying examination. Students who secure higher marks are given priority.
**Exercise Special Care During Choice Filling**
Dr. M.S. Chauhan stated that students must exercise extreme caution while filling in their choices. They should place the colleges they wish to prioritize at the top of their list. If a student's first-choice college is not allotted, a seat may be assigned based on their second or third preference. Therefore, it is essential to select colleges and courses thoughtfully. Furthermore, once a seat has been allotted, it is mandatory to deposit the fees within the stipulated deadline. If students fail to deposit the fees by the specified date, their seat will be cancelled, and they will have to participate in the admission process again during the subsequent phase. Consequently, it is crucial to pay close attention to the deadlines for every stage of the process—from the initial application to the final fee payment.
