The NTA has released the results for the UGC-NET June examination. A total of 4,241 candidates have qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and the post of Assistant Professor. While lakhs of students across the country take the UGC-NET exam annually, only a select few secure the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The JRF is not merely a certificate; it is considered a significant opportunity to build a career in the world of research. Notably, students who qualify for the JRF receive a monthly fellowship during their research tenure. The objective is to encourage talented students to pursue higher education and research. Let us find out how much financial support is provided monthly for the NET-JRF...

How much financial support does the JRF provide?
According to the UGC, candidates who qualify for the JRF receive a monthly fellowship of ₹37,000 for the initial two years. Subsequently, their research work is evaluated. If the work is found satisfactory, the candidate is upgraded to the Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) and begins receiving a monthly fellowship of ₹42,000 for the following year.

In addition, researchers receive a contingency grant. Students in the humanities and social sciences are granted ₹10,000 annually during the JRF period and ₹20,500 annually during the SRF period. Meanwhile, researchers in science subjects receive ₹12,000 annually during the JRF phase and ₹25,000 annually during the SRF phase for research purposes.

What is the procedure after securing the JRF?
After qualifying for the JRF, the candidate must enroll in a PhD program at a recognized university or institution. The fellowship disbursement begins following the prescribed procedure. The total tenure of the JRF is five years or until the submission of the thesis, whichever occurs earlier.

What makes the UGC-NET JRF special? According to experts, the JRF allows students to focus entirely on their research without worrying about finances. This is why it is considered one of the country's most prestigious research fellowships.
