With the arrival of November, preparations for Diwali have begun. People are heading out to shop, and various plans are being made. There is also much discussion regarding school holidays during the festive season. Although Diwali falls on a Sunday this year, schools in some states will remain closed the following day as well. Since the day after Diwali is a Monday, there is currently some confusion regarding whether or not schools will be open. Let’s take a look at how many days schools will remain closed in different states for the occasion of Diwali.
Holidays across the country for Diwali
Diwali is one of the major festivals in the country. This festival of lights is celebrated with great enthusiasm in almost every state in India. Holidays for this occasion are pre-scheduled in the calendar. This year, Diwali falls on Sunday, November 8th—a day when schools are already closed. The question remains whether or not there will be a holiday on the following day.
How many days of holidays in each state?
In several states, schools will remain closed on the day after Diwali—that is, Monday. These states include Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. In these regions, an extended break has been granted, covering festivals from Diwali through to Bhai Dooj.
Extended break in Maharashtra: In Maharashtra, schools have been closed for approximately 13 days. This mid-term break began on November 2nd and will continue until November 14th. Since November 14th falls on a Saturday, classes will resume on November 16th.
Schools in Rajasthan closed until November 15th: Similar to Maharashtra, Rajasthan also has an extended school break. Schools in Rajasthan will remain closed from November 4th to November 15th. This holiday period encompasses festivals such as Govardhan Puja, Diwali, and Bhai Dooj.
Himachal Pradesh: In Himachal Pradesh, the Diwali break is not limited to just a single day; a four-day holiday is granted for the festival. In Himachal Pradesh, there may be holidays from November 6 to November 10.
Updates for other states:
In Chhattisgarh, there will be holidays from November 6 to November 11. Schools in Uttar Pradesh may also have holidays for the festive season; specifically, there will be a holiday for Govardhan Puja following Diwali. In Bihar, in addition to Diwali, there is also Chhath Puja; consequently, schools there will remain closed from November 7 to November 17—a long break of 11 days for the festive season.
Parents are advised to contact their children's schools or keep an eye on any communications (messages) sent by the schools regarding these holidays. Please note that school holiday periods are sometimes subject to change (shortened or extended).
