Whenever you visit an ATM to withdraw cash, you have likely noticed a security guard stationed outside. In most major cities, ATMs are typically staffed with a security guard. While security guards are employed in various settings, many prefer working at an ATM because the environment is relatively quiet and offers a bit more downtime. However, few people know how to secure a job as an ATM guard. Today, we will walk you through the entire process.

Where should you apply?
First, it is important to know where to submit an application for an ATM guard position. This sector is managed by various private security firms—such as SIS, G-4S, and others—that secure contracts (tenders) for these services. You must apply through these companies. You can find job details on their official websites or by visiting their regional offices. Alternatively, the simplest approach is to ask an existing ATM guard for information.

Who is eligible to become an ATM guard?
There are specific requirements for becoming an ATM guard. Candidates must have completed the 10th grade and be between 21 and 45 years old (though some companies may offer flexibility regarding these limits). There are also physical requirements; for instance, a minimum body weight of 55 kg is typically required. Since a guard’s shift can last up to 12 hours, only candidates who are physically fit are considered. Additionally, the candidate must have a clean criminal record.

Training: 15 days to 1 month
Under the Government of India’s Private Security Agencies Regulation Act (PSARA), no individual can be hired as a security guard without a training certificate from a recognized security training institute. In practice, this training is usually provided by the security company itself, covering how to respond appropriately to various situations.

Beware of Touts
Many people seek employment as security guards. Taking advantage of this, some touts exploit vulnerable individuals. They may demand between 10,000 and 20,000 rupees under the pretext of securing a job, only to then disappear. Please remember that no legitimate security company charges a fee for providing employment.
