Delhi Technological University (DTU) has paved the way for engineering studies for cadets who have been boarded out on medical grounds from Indian Army technical training institutes. The university has issued guidelines for the lateral absorption of such cadets into undergraduate programs.

Under this scheme, a maximum of three supernumerary seats will be reserved each academic year. These will comprise one seat each in Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Medically boarded-out Army cadets can be admitted to these seats across the first to fourth years of study. However, priority will be given to cadets seeking admission to the first year, followed by applicants for the second, third, and fourth years.

Seats may be transferred if there is more than one eligible applicant for a particular branch and seats are available in other branches; however, total admissions in any single branch shall not exceed two cadets in an academic year. According to the notification, while the Indian Army will nominate the cadets, the final decision regarding selection and admission will rest with the competent authority at DTU.

Admission policy subject to periodic revision:
DTU has formulated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for this arrangement. The policy will be implemented in accordance with the approvals from the Academic Council and the Board of Management, as well as the provisions of a legally sanctioned Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army. The university will also formulate separate policies regarding migration and multiple entry-exit options.
