When will the UPSC Mains exam be held?
This year, the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination was conducted on May 24, 2026, at various centers across the country. Candidates who qualify in the UPSC Prelims 2026 will get the opportunity to appear for the Main Examination (UPSC Mains 2026). According to the Commission's schedule, the UPSC Civil Services Main Examination is set to begin on August 21, 2026. Consequently, successful candidates will have only about two months to prepare for the Mains after the UPSC Prelims result is declared.
How is the UPSC Prelims result prepared?
The UPSC Prelims result primarily depends on two factors. The examination consists of two papers: the first is General Studies (GS), and the second is the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT).
The CSAT factor: This paper is merely qualifying in nature—meaning candidates simply need to pass it—and securing a minimum of 33 percent marks is mandatory. The Race for Merit: The final cut-off list is determined entirely by performance in the first General Studies paper, the total number of vacancies, and the candidates' overall performance. The merit list based on the marks from the first paper is prepared only if a candidate qualifies in the CSAT paper.
Recruitment for 933 Officers; Tough Competition Ahead
