It stated, "The Haryana government has revised the syllabus of the HCS examination. The preliminary examination will be of 400 marks, consisting of two objective-type question papers. The main examination will be of a total of 600 marks, including 4 papers of General Studies. There will be a total of 6 descriptive question papers. Each paper will be of three hours duration and 100 marks."

In the old Haryana Civil Service pattern, the preliminary exam consisted of two papers, General Studies and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), totaling 200 marks. The main examination had four papers: English and Hindi papers of 100 marks each, and General Studies and one optional subject of 200 marks each, for a total of 600 marks. However, now the preliminary exam will be of 400 marks, and the main examination will include 6 papers. Two new papers will be added to the Mains examination.
