Gujarat government to deliver free books to students' homes; signs agreement with Amazon..
Purchasing school books is set to become easier for students and parents in Gujarat. The Gujarat State School Textbook Board has entered into an agreement with Amazon for the online sale and home delivery of textbooks. Under this facility, students and parents will be able to order the necessary books online from the comfort of their homes. Notably, no additional fee will be charged for the delivery of the books; they will be made available at their designated printed prices. This initiative is expected to particularly benefit students studying in private and self-financed schools.
**Books to be delivered to homes via Amazon**
The Gujarat State School Textbook Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon in Gandhinagar in the presence of Education Minister Dr. Pradyuman Vaja. Following this, textbooks published by the Board for various classes and mediums of instruction will be made available online.
Students and their parents will be able to order the books they need through Amazon, eliminating the need to visit bookstores or authorized distributors. Books ordered online will be delivered directly to their homes.
**No extra charge for delivery**
A key feature of this facility is that students will not have to pay any additional delivery charges beyond the cost of the books. The textbooks will be provided at their fixed printed prices. This will also benefit students who require supplementary books in addition to their standard school textbooks.
The Gujarat State School Textbook Board supplies approximately 1.5 crore (15 million) textbooks annually for students in self-financed schools. Currently, the supply chain involves books reaching booksellers through authorized distributors, after which students purchase them from the shops.
The new online system is likely to bring relief to students and parents, especially during the start of the new academic session, a time when overcrowding and long queues at bookstores are common issues. The facility to order books via Amazon from home will save both time and effort.
