The government has taken a major step ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. A temporary ban has been imposed on Telegram. The NEET-UG exam is scheduled for June 21. The ban on Telegram will remain in effect until June 22, with the message-editing feature disabled until June 30. The NTA stated that the central government took this decision to ensure the exam is conducted securely and fairly.

According to the NTA, certain gangs were defrauding students and their families via Telegram channels by promising to provide the question paper. Channels with names such as "Paper Leaked NEET," "Re-NEET 2026," and "Private Mafia" were demanding sums ranging from thousands to lakhs of rupees. The agency clarified that the exam question paper is completely secure and is not available to anyone before the examination.

**Temporary ban on Telegram until June 22**
The NTA noted that Telegram's message-editing feature was being misused in several instances. After the exam took place, the actual question paper would be inserted into old messages to create the impression that the paper had been leaked beforehand. This measure was taken to curb the spread of such fake 'paper leak' content; consequently, the temporary ban on Telegram will remain in force until June 22.

**Government's major decision ahead of the June 21 exam**
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)—operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs—along with various state police forces and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has taken joint action to remove numerous fake Telegram channels and bots.

The NTA acknowledged that millions of people use Telegram for education, employment, and personal matters, and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused. However, the ban has been imposed for a limited period to ensure the secure conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21.

Do not rely on rumors – NTA
The agency has urged students and parents not to rely on any rumors or unverified information and to obtain exam-related details solely from the official website (neet.nta.nic.in) and NTA's verified social media accounts. It is worth noting that the NEET UG exam was previously cancelled on May 3; the re-examination will now be held on June 21. A total of 22 lakh candidates will appear for the NEET re-exam.
