The central government has taken a big step to improve the technical education of the country. In the cabinet meeting, approval has been given to implement the Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education i.e., Merit Yojana, in 275 institutions of the country. According to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, it will include 175 engineering institutes and 100 polytechnic colleges. According to the World Bank's ER report, the availability of research by faculty members in engineering education is low, and their relations with the industry are weak.

Attention will be given to these fields.

A strategy for digitization will be prepared in the included states and union territories.

A guideline will be made for multidisciplinary programs in technical courses.

Emphasis will be laid on learning, employment skills, and good placement of students.

Research and innovation will be strengthened in the institutions.

Special attention will be given to the development of faculty.

Students and institutions will benefit.

Under this scheme, students will get internship opportunities. The course will be updated according to the needs of the industries. Special development programs will also be run for the faculty. Apart from this, there will also be research hubs, incubation centers, skill and maker labs, and language workshops to promote research and innovation. According to the Ministry of Education, the scheme will benefit government engineering institutes and polytechnic colleges of all states and union territories. Major institutes like IIT, IIM, and AICTE will also play an important role in NBA.

Budget fixed for the scheme.
This scheme will run for five years (2025-26 to 2029-30), and a total of Rs 4,200 crore will be spent on it. Out of this, the World Bank will give a loan of Rs 2,100 crore, while the rest will be spent by the government. This scheme is in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised this scheme. He said on X that this step will promote research, innovation and skill development. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed happiness over this and said that this scheme will empower more than 7.5 lakh students of the country and increase their employability.
