Government Offers Scholarships Worth Lakhs for MBBS Studies; Here Are the Details
If you dream of pursuing an MBBS degree, this information is relevant to you. Today, we will outline the scholarship schemes the government runs for MBBS candidates.
For the lakhs of students aspiring to become doctors, MBBS education often proves to be quite expensive. The high fees charged by private medical colleges, along with other associated costs, can pose a significant challenge for financially disadvantaged students. However, both central and state governments operate various scholarship schemes to assist such students, helping to substantially alleviate the financial burden of their education.
Under government scholarship programs, eligible students receive financial aid to cover tuition fees, living and food expenses, and other academic requirements. This assistance is determined based on the student's academic merit, social category, and family income. Depending on the specific scheme, students can receive financial support ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹1 lakh or more annually.
PM-USP Scholarship Scheme
The Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) scheme is one of the central government's key initiatives. This scheme provides financial assistance for higher education to students who have demonstrated outstanding performance in Class 12. Eligibility is granted to students who have secured 80 percent or higher marks in Class 12 and whose family's annual income is below ₹4.5 lakh. Eligible students can receive financial aid of up to ₹20,000 per year.
Central Sector Scholarship Scheme
The Central Sector Scholarship Scheme is another significant initiative for meritorious students. It provides financial assistance to eligible students pursuing studies in colleges and universities. To avail of this scheme, students must maintain a strong academic record and ensure their family's annual income falls within the prescribed limit. Selected students are awarded a scholarship of up to ₹20,000 annually.
Post-Matric Scholarship
The Post-Matric Scholarship scheme is implemented for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). This scheme is administered by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. It covers students' tuition fees, examination fees, and other academic expenses. Additionally, students receive a maintenance allowance to help them meet other costs incurred during their studies.
Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme
The Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme is specifically designed for the dependent children and widows of ex-servicemen and Indian Coast Guard personnel. Under this scheme, eligible students receive a monthly scholarship ranging from ₹2,500 to ₹3,000. The objective of the scheme is to encourage children from the families of service personnel to pursue higher education.
