MBBS Stipend: The Gujarat government has decided to provide a stipend to medical graduates who completed their MBBS abroad and are currently undergoing their internship in the state. They will now receive a monthly stipend of ₹21,840. They will be accorded the same status as interns who graduated from medical colleges within Gujarat. Health Minister Pansheriya announced this decision on Monday. This move is expected to benefit approximately 350 foreign medical graduates who received internship postings in the state between June 1 and October 1, 2026.

A press release quoted him as saying that, in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations, every medical student who completes their MBBS degree abroad is required to undergo a mandatory one-year internship in India.

**Mandatory Internship under NMC Rules**
This decision aligns with National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations, which mandate that students who complete their MBBS abroad must also undergo a compulsory one-year internship in India. According to official information, approximately 350 intern doctors who received postings between June 1, 2026, and October 1, 2026, will benefit from this stipend.

This financial assistance is expected to provide relief to young doctors who are fulfilling the mandatory internship requirement before advancing in their medical careers.

**Eliminating Stipend Disparity through Pay Parity**
With the monthly stipend set at ₹21,840, foreign medical graduates interning at government and GMERS institutions will receive an allowance equal to that of other intern doctors in the state. This decision ensures equal remuneration during practical training and resolves the long-standing disparity regarding stipends paid to Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs).
