India Post has released the first merit list (GDS 1st Merit List 2026) for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment 2026. Candidates who have made it to the merit list must now proceed to the next stage: the document verification process. Successfully clearing document verification is mandatory for appointment; failure to do so may result in the cancellation of your appointment.

**Prepare these documents for Document Verification (DV)**
A list of important documents required for verification is provided below. Please ensure you have these ready before the verification process begins to avoid any issues during the procedure.

Caste certificate (if applicable)

Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate (if applicable)

Date of birth certificate

Medical certificate issued by a Medical Officer of a government hospital, government dispensary, or government primary health center, etc. (Mandatory). For employment in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, or Goa, prepare a certificate issued by the competent authority regarding knowledge of tribal/local dialects or languages.

During verification, you must carry the original documents along with two sets of photocopies.

India Post has released separate merit lists for all states and Union Territories. You can download the merit list by clicking the link corresponding to your state. Additionally, you can easily check your result by following the steps provided below.

To download the India Post GDS 1st merit list state-wise, visit the website: indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement. Now, click on "Shortlisted Candidates: Schedule-II, July-2026" on the home page.

Next, select your state and click on it.
The merit list for that state will then open on the screen.
You can then check for your registration number in the list.

Don't be disappointed if your name isn't on the first list; the next list will be released soon.
Candidates whose names do not appear in the first list need not be disappointed. India Post typically releases 3 to 4 lists for this recruitment drive. The next list will be released after the first round of the process is completed. It is estimated that the 2nd merit list could be released in the first week of November.
