GATE 2027 Registration: The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) will commence the online registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 this week. According to the revised schedule shared by IIT Madras earlier this month, the online registration process will begin on August 27, 2026 (Thursday). Once the process starts, candidates will be required to fill out their online application forms on the official GATE 2027 website—gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

This time, all interested candidates holding Indian citizenship must also register on DigiLocker. Candidates wishing to appear for GATE 2027 who do not yet have a verified DigiLocker account should complete this process by August 27. Candidates should also note that their names will be verified against DigiLocker data when applying for GATE 2027 via the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal. If there is any discrepancy in their name, candidates can rectify it on DigiLocker before applying for GATE 2027; otherwise, changes can be made during the correction window in accordance with the applicable rules. Eligibility for GATE 2027

Educational Qualification: Students currently in the third year or higher of any government-approved undergraduate program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities are eligible.

Students admitted to BE via diploma: Students admitted to the second year of BE after a diploma who are currently in the third year or higher of the BE program are also eligible.

Age Limit: There is no age limit for applying to GATE 2027.

Number of Attempts: There is no restriction on the number of times a candidate can apply for GATE.

Choice of Papers: Candidates can choose a maximum of two GATE 2027 papers from the specified combinations. However, candidates are advised to select the appropriate paper(s) based on the subject of their qualifying degree.

GATE 2027 is conducted to evaluate candidates' understanding of undergraduate-level subjects in Engineering, Technology, Science, Commerce, Arts, Architecture, and Humanities. It is jointly organized by IISc and IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

Successful candidates can use their GATE scores to seek admission to master's and doctoral programs at institutes supported by the Ministry of Education and may also receive financial assistance; additionally, several public sector undertakings use GATE scores for recruitment.
