GATE 2027: IIT Madras has revised the schedule for GATE 2027. The institute announced that the online application process for the GATE examination will now commence on August 27. This exam is jointly conducted by IISc and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.

According to the new schedule, the deadline for regular registration (without late fees) has been extended from September 21 to September 27, 2026. Meanwhile, registration with late fees will remain open until October 5, instead of September 30.

**Exam Schedule Revised**
The GATE 2027 examination will now be held over six days—February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21—instead of four days. Information regarding city allotment will be released on January 4, 2027, while results will be declared on March 19, 2027. There have been no changes to other key dates, including the application correction window.

**How ​​many papers in the GATE exam?**

The GATE 2027 examination will be conducted for 30 test papers. Candidates can appear for one or a maximum of two papers from permitted combinations. A new paper on ‘Robotics and Automation’ (RA) has also been introduced this year. Along with syllabus revisions for several papers, IIT Madras has announced changes to the ‘Textile Engineering and Fibre Science’ paper and the sectional paper codes for ‘Engineering Sciences’, ‘Humanities and Social Sciences’, and ‘Life Sciences’.

**Use of GATE Score**

Candidates can use a valid GATE score to seek admission into Master’s and Doctoral programs in fields such as Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities at eligible institutions. Several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also utilize GATE scores for recruitment purposes. According to the official GATE 2027 website, the score remains valid for three years from the date the result is declared.
