The application process for the GATE 2026 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam, conducted by IIT Guwahati, ends today, October 6, 2025. Candidates who haven't yet applied can do so immediately by visiting the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
This exam is one of the most prestigious exams for candidates pursuing engineering, science, and architecture. GATE scores not only provide admission to the country's top institutions—IITs, NITs, and IISc—but also open the door to jobs in government-owned companies (PSUs) like BHEL, NTPC, ONGC, and IOCL.
Who is conducting GATE 2026?
This year, IIT Guwahati is responsible for GATE 2026. The exam is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, IISc Bangalore, and all IITs. The exam will be conducted entirely in computer-based testing (CBT) mode.
Important Application Dates
The GATE 2026 application process began on August 28, 2025. The deadline is today, October 6, 2025. Candidates wishing to apply with a late fee can do so until October 9, 2025. The exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026.
Application Fee
The application fee for female, SC, ST, and PWD candidates is ₹1,000, while for other candidates it is ₹2,000. If a candidate applies with a late fee, female/SC/ST/PWD candidates will have to pay ₹1,500, and other candidates will have to pay ₹2,500.
Required Documents
Before applying for GATE 2026, candidates must have certain documents ready: a passport-sized photo, digital signature, a valid photo ID (such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport), category certificate (if applicable), PwD or dyslexic certificate (if applicable), and degree or eligibility certificate.
How to Apply
The application process is completely online. Candidates must first visit gate2026.iitg.ac.in. Click on the “GATE 2026 Registration” link on the homepage and register with your valid email ID and mobile number. Then, log in and fill out the application form, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee. After submitting, download the confirmation page and take a printout for future reference.
