The registration process for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 has started from today, 28 August. To appear in the exam, candidates can apply in online mode by visiting the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The GATE 2026 exam will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. Candidates can easily apply through the direct link given here.

This exam is conducted every year for admission to PG and direct doctoral programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in prestigious institutes like IITs, NITs, and IIITs. The exam is conducted at the national level. Apart from this, the GATE score is valid for engineering recruitment in many public sector undertakings (PSUs). GATE pass candidates get direct jobs in these companies. Candidates can register till 26 September without a late fee.

GATE 2026 Application Fee: How much is the GATE 2025 registration fee?
The registration fee for the SC/ST/Divyang category has been fixed at Rs 1000. Whereas for all other categories, the application fee is Rs 2000. The fee can be deposited in online mode. For more information, you can check the official notification issued.

GATE 2026 Exam: The exam will be held in two shifts
The exam will be conducted on 7, 8, 14, and 15 February 2026 at various centers across the country. The exam will be conducted in two shifts every day. The first shift will be from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the second shift will be from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. There will be exams for a total of 30 different subjects, which include various subjects including engineering, technology, science, and architecture. Candidates will appear for the exam in their chosen subject.
