The exam will be conducted in two shifts.
According to the released exam schedule, the GATE 2026 exam will begin on February 7, 2026. This exam will be completely computer-based and will be conducted at various examination centers across the country. The exam will be held in two shifts:
Morning Shift: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Afternoon Shift: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Candidates who wish to apply for MTech, MS, and PhD programs through GATE 2026 can use the mock test link available on the official website. IIT Guwahati has also made mock tests available for GATE 2026, allowing candidates to familiarize themselves with the exam pattern, screen layout, and types of questions.
The institute has clarified that the features appearing in the mock test may differ from the features of the actual exam. Also, the mock test should not be used to predict which topics will be covered in the actual exam. The questions in the mock test will not be evaluated, and no scorecard will be issued.
The GATE 2026 question paper will include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
