Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren passed away at the age of 81. He had studied only till matriculation, but created history in politics by becoming the voice of the tribal society.

An era in Jharkhand politics has come to an end. Former Chief Minister of the state and one of the founding leaders of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Shibu Soren passed away at the age of 81. He breathed his last at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi. He was suffering from a serious kidney disease for the last one month and was on ventilator.

As soon as the news of his death came out, a wave of mourning ran across Jharkhand. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who is also his son, was himself present in Delhi and he informed about his father's death on social media from the hospital itself. He got emotional on Twitter and wrote, "Respected Dishom Guruji has left us all. Today I have become zero..."

Shibu Soren was popular as 'Guruji'

Shibu Soren was addressed as 'Guruji' in Jharkhand. He was not just a politician, but had become a symbol of the fight for tribal identity and rights. He led the movement to give Jharkhand the status of a separate state. Under his leadership, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha created a new wave of political and social awareness in the tribal society.

Shibu Soren became the Chief Minister of Jharkhand thrice and was also a minister in the central government several times. His entire political life was dedicated to fighting for the interests of the people of Jharkhand and especially the tribal community.

How educated was Shibu Soren?

Shibu Soren had studied till matriculation. He received education from Gola High School in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. In those days, the level of education in the tribal society was very limited and there was also a lack of resources, despite this, he got education and started working towards spreading awareness in the society.

The way he made his strong identity in politics despite having limited qualifications in the field of education is inspiring in itself. He understood public sentiments, adopted language and culture and tried to connect with every section of the society.

An irreparable loss for Jharkhand

With the demise of Shibu Soren, Jharkhand has lost a leader who devoted his entire life from the creation of the state to laying the foundation of development. Whether it was demanding tribal interests from the central government or giving voice to local movements within the state, he always strongly presented the public's point.
