Five students got admission in IIT Kanpur without JEE Advanced. Know how they got admission.

Bypassing the traditional JEE Advanced exam, IIT-Kanpur has admitted five students to its Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Technology (BTech programs.
Getting admission in IIT is the first choice of almost every student aspiring to pursue engineering. But for this it is very important to clear JEE Mains and Advanced with excellent marks. This year IIT Kanpur has admitted 5 students in BTech and BS programs through Olympiad. According to a report published in INDIA TODAY, IIT Kanpur has admitted five students to its BTech and BS programs in the session 2024-25 through Olympiad by bypassing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced. All five students have opted for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).
According to the report, two of the selected students belonged to the International Informatics Olympiad Training Camp (IOITC), and three students belonged to the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC). While the institute has not released their names or personal background, it has confirmed that the selection was based on performance in the Olympiad, attendance at training camps, and adherence to eligibility criteria set at a level comparable to JEE Advanced.
All five students opted for CSE
Olympiad-based admission was available in five departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, Economic Sciences, Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, and Chemistry. However, all five students opted for CSE.
Currently such admission is limited to select BTech and BS programmes
Officials clarified that no special academic support will be given to those who get admission through the Olympiad. They will be directly admitted to the regular course and will study with other students who get admission through JEE Advanced. Currently, this entry route is limited to select BTech and BS programmes.
How selection is done
Candidates are selected based on their achievements in the Olympiads. The shortlisted candidates then have to face a mandatory written exam and possibly an interview, with the final selection being done by a department-level committee. According to the institute, this structure ensures that the students seeking admission have the same academic qualifications as their JEE-qualified counterparts.
