First Increased, Then Decreased... SSC Releases Final Vacancy List for CGL, See How Many Posts Will Be Filled..
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the final vacancy count for the Combined Graduate Level—or SSC CGL—Examination 2025. Through this recruitment process, appointments will be made to thousands of posts across various ministries, departments, and organizations of the Central Government. Following minor adjustments to previously released figures, recruitment has now been confirmed for a total of 15,125 posts. Within this total, specific quotas have been allocated for candidates belonging to the Unreserved, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories. Additionally, candidates have been instructed to submit their post preferences before the declaration of the final results.
Previously, a notification issued on June 9, 2025, had invited applications for 14,582 posts. Subsequently, following requests for additional posts from various ministries and departments, the total number of vacancies was increased by 543. These recruitments will fill Group 'B' and Group 'C' positions within the Central Government's ministries, departments, organizations, as well as constitutional and statutory bodies.
Seat Allocation for Various Categories
According to the information released by the Commission, out of the total 15,125 posts, 6,459 are reserved for the Unreserved category. Meanwhile, 3,834 posts have been allocated for OBC candidates, 2,223 for SC, 1,134 for ST, and 1,475 for EWS candidates. Among these, the largest share—6,626 posts—is for the position of Superintendent under the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which falls under the Ministry of Finance. Additionally, the list includes 412 posts for Income Tax Inspectors and 1,294 posts for Tax Assistants. Recruitment to Take Place in These Departments as Well
Recruitment for various posts will also be conducted within the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which operates under the Ministry of Finance. This includes 1,306 posts for Inspector (Central Excise), 137 posts for Inspector (Examiner), and 353 posts for Inspector (Preventive Officer). Additionally, 183 posts for Executive Assistant and 771 posts for Tax Assistant will also be filled.
Post Preferences Must Be Submitted by March 13
The SSC has issued instructions to all candidates who appeared for the Tier-2 examination to submit their preferences for posts and departments before the declaration of the final results. The results for Tier-1 were announced on December 18, while the Tier-2 examination was conducted between January 18 and January 20.
SSC to Soon Initiate Process for New Recruitments
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is set to commence the application process for three new recruitment drives this month. These include the SSC CGL Examination 2026, the Junior Engineer Examination 2026, and the Selection Post Phase-14 Examination. Applications for these recruitments will be accepted until the end of April, and the preliminary computer-based examinations are tentatively scheduled for May. Furthermore, notifications for the SSC CHSL Examination 2026, the Stenographer Grade C and D Examination 2026, and the Combined Hindi Translator Examination 2026 will be issued next month. These examinations are likely to be conducted between July and September.
