UPSC: Candidates appearing in all recruitment examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will undergo facial recognition at the examination centers. This was announced by officials on Saturday.

They said this will further strengthen the fairness of the examination process.

A note on the commission's website states, "All candidates appearing in UPSC examinations will be subjected to facial recognition at the examination venue."

The commission conducts various recruitment examinations for government jobs, including the Civil Services Examination for the selection of officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).

AI-Enabled Facial Authentication at UPSC for Faster and Secure Verification
The UPSC successfully conducted a pilot program to test artificial intelligence-enabled facial authentication technology for faster and secure candidate verification during the NDA (National Defence Academy) and NA (Naval Academy) II Examination, 2025, and the CDS (Combined Defence Services) II Examination, 2025, held on September 14, 2025.

The pilot program was conducted at select centers in Gurugram, where candidates' facial images were digitally matched with the photographs submitted in their registration forms.

UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar had stated that the new system reduced the verification time to an average of just 8 to 10 seconds per candidate, significantly speeding up the entry process and adding an extra layer of security.
