Ex-Agniveer Reservation: The year 2026 is bringing a big gift for Agniveers. The central government has issued a new notification regarding reservations for Agniveers in government jobs. Former Agniveers joining the Border Security Force (BSF) will now get a 50 percent reservation. In addition, changes have also been made regarding the age limit and physical test for them in the BSF recruitment.

Reservation for Ex-Agniveers Increased from 10% to 50%
According to the latest notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 50 percent of the seats in direct recruitment at the Constable level in the BSF will now be reserved for former Agniveers. Earlier, former Agniveers received only 10 percent reservation. This means that half of the seats in the recruitment process every year will be given only to experienced former Agniveers. In addition, 10 percent of the seats will be reserved for ex-servicemen and 3 percent for the adjustment of BSF combatized constables (tradesmen).

This decision is considered a major step towards providing a stable and secure career to the youth who have served for four years as Agniveers. This will not only increase employment opportunities for the youth but will also provide the central security forces with already trained, disciplined, and experienced young men. This decision of the central government is being described as making the Agnipath scheme stronger and more significant for the future.

5-Year Age Relaxation
Former Agniveers will get an additional 5-year age relaxation for government jobs in the BSF Constable post. The age limit for general category candidates is 18 to 23 years, while the first batch of former Agniveers will get a 5-year relaxation, and subsequent batches will get a 3-year relaxation every year.

No Physical Test Required
Former Agniveers, who are already trained and disciplined, will not have to undergo any physical test in the Border Security Force (BSF). They have been completely exempted from the Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The BSF recruitment process will be conducted in two stages. BSF Constable recruitment will be conducted in two phases:
Recruitment of ex-Agniveers only: In the first phase, 50 percent of the seats will be filled exclusively by ex-Agniveers. This will be conducted by the concerned nodal force.
Through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC): In the second phase of BSF recruitment, 47 percent of the seats will be filled through the SSC. This will include 10 percent of seats reserved for ex-servicemen. If any seats remain vacant in the first phase, they will be filled in the second phase.

What about women?
Currently, no separate changes have been made for female candidates. Their seats will be determined annually by the Director General of BSF (DG BSF) based on operational requirements.

It is worth noting that after completing four years of service, Agniveers receive reservations in BSF, CAPFs, CRPF, and CISF. In addition, they are given priority in state police recruitment and private sector jobs. The decision to reserve 50% of the seats in BSF Constable recruitment for Agniveers is considered a significant step towards providing a stable and secure career to the youth who have served the nation under the Agnipath scheme.
