The search for the culprits of the Pahalgam terror attack is on. Several units of the Indian Army along with Para Military Force, Marcos, and Garud Commando Force are engaged in search operation at Ground Zero. The most special among them is the Garud Commando Force which specializes in finding and killing terrorists. The soldiers of the Garud Commando Force are camping in the forests of the valley of Pahalgam where the terrorists committed the cowardly act.

Garud Commando is the special commando force of the Indian Air Force, which was formed in 2004. It is named after the divine bird Garuda described in the Puranas. It is considered the most elite among the special forces of India which is capable of handling any kind of situation. Especially since they have expertise in counter-terrorism. After Pathankot Airbase, many commando units have been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir as well. Which defeats the terrorists from time to time.

How are Garud Commandos made?
The newest force in India's special forces is Garud Commandos. The Air Force decided to form it in 2003. Before this, the Air Force was dependent on the Indian Army's paramilitary forces for its special operations. When they were formed in 2004, initially 1080 soldiers were kept, later their number was increased. These commandos are selected in two ways. There are different selection processes for non-commissioned and commissioned posts.

How is the selection done?
The selection for the non-commissioned post of Garud Commando Force is done directly through the Airman Selection Center. The special thing is that there is no second chance of selection in this. After selection, the grade has to be maintained here even during training and drills. These soldiers remain in the commando force during the service duration. Apart from this, cadets of the Ground Duty Course of the Air Force Academy are recruited for commission posts. They have to clear the GODC exam. The soldiers who pass it are merged into the Garud Commando Force.

This is how the training is done.
The soldiers selected for the Garud Commando Force are trained at the Garud Regiment Training Center Hindon. After this, they are trained by a special group. Apart from the Army, it includes NSG commandos, paramilitary soldiers, and members of the Special Frontier Force. The third phase of their training is the Parachute Training Center, where they are taught how to jump from the air. After this, training takes place at the Diving School of the Navy. After this, they are also sent to the Jungle Warfare School of the Army for some time.

Top in air, land, and water

Whether it is air, water or land, they are capable of fighting everywhere. Finally, they are kept for training with the Army's Special Forces. The special thing is that in the Indian Special Forces, the training of Garud Commandos is the longest, that is, about 72 weeks, which sometimes takes up to three years to complete.
