DU: Language courses with low enrollment may be merged; focus will be on courses including Urdu-Arabic and Persian..
DU Admission 2026: Delhi University (DU) is likely to announce revised combinations for several BA programs this week. Concurrently, the second phase of the undergraduate admission process under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG) is set to begin. The first phase of admissions is currently underway, with students registering via the CSAS portal.
The university is taking this step to address the issue of low enrollment in courses that have seen consistently low demand over the past few years. Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi stated that the revised program combinations are being finalized after analyzing admission trends from recent years.
Gandhi told PTI, "We are going to make some changes to the BA program combinations. We have analyzed data and trends from the last few years; this decision is entirely data-driven. Details will be released this week, coinciding with the start of the second phase."
**Plans to pair low-demand subjects with popular courses**
Delhi University had constituted a committee to boost admissions in BA courses that have seen low enrollment in recent years. The committee recommended that colleges review their existing subject combinations and pair low-demand subjects with popular ones to attract more students to these courses.
The committee also suggested creating new BA programs by combining languages such as Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Bengali, and Telugu with other subjects. According to officials, admission to the 73 undergraduate programs and over 100 BA program combinations offered across DU's 67 colleges will be based on CUET-UG 2026 scores. Students will also be required to meet the eligibility criteria for the respective courses.
**What needs to be done in CSAS-UG Phase 2?**
After completing the initial registration, candidates must participate in the second phase of CSAS-UG.
In the second phase, students will be required to submit their preferences for courses (programs) and colleges.
Candidates must map their CUET-UG subjects to the subjects they studied in Class 12.
The university will consider only those language and domain-specific CUET papers that correspond to the subjects studied in Class 12.
Subject mapping will determine which programs a candidate is eligible for.
Students will get the opportunity to select their course and college preferences only after their eligibility has been determined.
DU has stated that the complete schedule for the second phase of CSAS-UG will be released soon.
