DU Elections 2025: Candidates announced for DUSU elections, female candidate in the fray for the post of president..

DU Elections: Preparations have begun for the Delhi University Students' Union elections. The Left alliance and other major student organisations on Thursday announced their panels for the 2025-26 elections.
In a fresh push for women's leadership on campus, two organisations have fielded women for the post of president for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections to be held on September 18.
NSUI to have a woman president after 17 years
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has nominated a woman candidate, Jocelyn Nandita Choudhary, for the post of president after 17 years. The NSUI has described it as a "historic move" as no woman has held the post since 2008.
The Congress-backed NSUI has nominated Rahul Jhansla for the post of vice-president, Kabir for the post of secretary, and Luvkush Bhadana for the post of joint secretary.
Aiming to maintain its dominance in Delhi University politics, the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has fielded Aryan Mann for the post of president, Govind Tanwar for the post of vice-president, Kunal Chaudhary for the post of secretary, and Deepika Jha for the post of joint secretary.
SFI-AISA panel against money and muscle power
The left-wing SFI-AISA alliance said its panel represents an "alternative voice" against "money and muscle power" in campus politics.
The Students' Federation of India (SFI) and the All India Students' Association (AISA) have fielded Anjali from Indraprastha College for Women for the post of president, Sohan Kumar for the post of vice-president, Abhinandan Pratyashi for the post of secretary, and Abhishek Kumar for the post of joint secretary.
The alliance stressed issues such as women's safety, hostel facilities, metro concessions, and representation of marginalised communities.
DUSU elections for the 2025-26 academic session will be held on September 18, and counting of votes will take place the next day.
ABVP also announced the names of candidates
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has also announced its central panel for the Delhi University Students Union elections (DUSU). Aryan Mann has been nominated for the post of president, Govind Tanwar for the post of vice-president, Kunal Chaudhary for the post of secretary, and Deepika Jha for the post of joint secretary.
The BJP-backed ABVP has made a strong claim on all the seats this time. The Delhi government has recently started many new facilities along with special buses for the students of the University. It is believed that ABVP can benefit from this.
On Thursday, ABVP leaders said that they only want to win this election by raising issues related to the students. Presidential candidate Aryan Mann said that his focus will be on the fee hike and the development of infrastructure.
Vice-presidential candidate Govind Tanwar said that ABVP gave an opportunity to a common worker like him to contest the student union elections. This is the respect of all the poor students. They will make efforts to start new hostel construction and supplementary examination for final year students.
ABVP Delhi Prant Mantri Sarthak Sharma said that the candidates for all four seats of the central panel have been announced by the Vidyarthi Parishad. Soon, they will release their manifesto. He said that the development issues of the students, as well as the development of the entire university, will be their priority.
The court gave instructions to conduct elections peacefully.
In the 2024 DUSU elections, the NSUI made a comeback after a gap of seven years and won two key posts - president and joint secretary. The ABVP secured the vice-president post and retained its presence in the student union by retaining the secretary post.
This year's elections are being held under strict measures against damage to public property, as per the guidelines of the Lyngdoh Committee. Last year, the Delhi High Court had halted the counting of votes till such disturbances were cleared.
On Wednesday, the high court again directed Delhi University to ensure that the elections are conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner, without misuse of vehicles or violation of rules. The court directed the university to file an affidavit by September 15, detailing the steps being taken to implement the election norms.
