Delhi University (DU) Undergraduate i.e. UG admission portal was launched on Tuesday. With this, the process of registration for admission to UG courses in the academic session 2025-26 has started. It is believed that DU will start a new session on August 1, but this year DU has made a big change in the rules for UG admission, under which students will now be able to choose two languages for merit. Let us understand what this change in the admission rules is. How is there a system of making merit based on two languages?

Till now merit was made from one language.

Before understanding the changes in DU UG admission rules, let us understand the rules in effect till now. Of course, DU makes CUET merit the basis for admission in UG, under which till now DU used to prepare merit based on marks obtained by students in 4 out of a total of 5 subjects of CUET. These 4 subjects included 3 academic subjects, while one subject was language (a language like Hindi-English).

Now two languages and two academic subjects

According to the changed rules for DU UG admission, now any student can choose two language subjects and two academic subjects to make merit in CUET. To understand this by example, till now any student could choose CUET marks of only one of Hindi and English to make his merit and the remaining three subjects were academic. Of course, why should his marks in Hindi and English be better than other subjects? In the new system, now students can choose both Hindi and English for merit if they have better marks. The remaining two subjects will be academic. If a student wants to choose three academic subjects under the old system, then this facility will also be available.

Admission rules for BSc Honors also changed.

From this year, DU has also changed the rule for admission in BSc Honors under the UG admission process. Earlier, the rule for admission in BSc Honors was that the student would have to score at least 30 percent marks in the language in which he will give CUET. Only such students will be eligible for admission to BSc Honors. In the new rules, the requirement of 30% marks has been abolished.
