DRDO Fellowship: The Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE), Chandigarh—under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)—has invited applications for Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions. The disciplines covered include Computer Science & IT, Structural Engineering, Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing & GIS, and Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Environmental Engineering.

Who is eligible to apply?
For Computer Science, candidates must hold a First Class ME/M.degree in the relevant subject, or a First Class BE/B.Tech degree accompanied by a valid NET/GATE qualification. For the Structural Engineering position, an ME/M.Tech degree or a BE/B. Tech degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering, along with NET/GATE qualification, is required. For positions in Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, and GIS, a relevant engineering degree or a First Class post-graduate science degree in the specified subjects, along with NET/GATE qualification, is sought.

Similarly, for positions in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, and Environmental Engineering, a relevant engineering degree or a post-graduate degree in a science subject, along with NET/GATE qualification, is mandatory.

Technical proficiency is essential
Candidates possessing practical knowledge in the relevant field may be given preference in this fellowship program. Desirable skills include: knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data, Image Processing, and programming (for Computer Science); experience with Unity for Virtual Reality; proficiency in AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro/ETABS, and ANSYS/Abaqus (for Structural Engineering); knowledge of Remote Sensing, GIS, AI/ML, and SAR data processing (for Geoinformatics); and knowledge of Numerical Weather Prediction models and statistical analysis (for Meteorology).

Age limit and stipend
The maximum age limit for the JRF position is 28 years. Age relaxation of five years for SC/ST candidates and three years for OBC candidates is applicable. Selected candidates will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹37,000 along with HRA as per rules.

Interview Date
Walk-in interviews for candidates in Computer Science and Structural Engineering will be held on September 15, 2026, while interviews for fields related to Geo-informatics and Atmospheric Science will take place on September 16, 2026. Candidates are required to bring their bio-data, self-attested copies of academic documents, original certificates, caste and experience certificates, details of publications, and passport-sized photographs at the time of the interview.

The initial tenure for the JRF position will be two years.
Candidates must possess an Engineering or Postgraduate (PG) degree in the relevant subject and, where applicable, must have qualified for NET/GATE.
Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend along with HRA as per rules.
Candidates currently employed in the government or public sector must also submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
