The Punjab government has taken a major decision in the interest of students. Technical training from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Punjab will now offer double benefits. Students will receive a technical training diploma from ITIs, while simultaneously receiving a 10th and 12th-grade certificate. This change has been implemented under the new education policy and will be implemented from this session.

Let's find out how the Punjab government is providing this double benefit to young men and women through ITIs. How many exams will be required for this?

MOU with NIOS
The Punjab Technical Education Department has finalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). A copy of the MoU has been sent to NIOS, and detailed guidelines will be issued soon. Following this, the scheme will be implemented.

How to Benefit
If a student pursues a two-year ITI course after 8th grade, they will only have to take two papers in one language and one preferred subject. Upon passing both, they will receive an ITI certificate as well as a 10th-grade certificate. Similarly, students pursuing ITI after 10th grade will also be able to obtain a 12th-grade certificate.

Why is this important?
An educational certificate is required along with the ITI certificate. This certificate is used for admission to polytechnics, technical diplomas, or graduation programs. A similar agreement has already been reached between the Directorate General of Technical Education (DGT) and the National Institute of Technology (NIOS) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Facility in 137 ITIs in Punjab
This facility will be available in 137 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Punjab, with approximately 52,000 seats. Last year, ITI enrollment reached 93%. Consequently, the Technical Education Department is working to introduce new trades and introduce technical education courses in schools.

Virtual and AI Labs
To further improve technical education, the department will open a Virtual Reality (VR) lab in every district. Additionally, Artificial Intelligence (AI) labs are being established in six ITIs. These labs will provide students with practical knowledge. The VR lab will enable students to learn dangerous and complex tasks without injury or harm. The AI lab will also provide an understanding of modern technology.

Insurance Cover Proposed
The department is also planning to provide insurance coverage to ITI students, which will be implemented soon. This will ensure safety while also ensuring education.
