Delhi University: The Academic Council of Delhi University, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, held an important meeting where significant decisions were made. The main focus of the meeting was on improving teaching quality and promoting permanent appointments. The Vice-Chancellor clearly stated that the university and its affiliated colleges must expedite the recruitment process for permanent positions regularly, rather than relying on temporary teachers, i.e., guest and ad-hoc teachers. A proposal for 9 new medical postgraduate courses was also presented.
This decision by Delhi University will not only provide stability to teachers but also improve the quality of teaching and research. The council also approved several agendas related to medical education, research, and faculty development. Along with increasing the number of medical courses, a consensus was reached on implementing new guidelines to bring uniformity to the coursework pattern for PhD researchers. Rules for travel grants for faculty members presenting papers at national and international conferences were also made stricter.
Vice-Chancellor's Emphasis on Permanent Appointments
During the ‘Zero Hour,’ Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh clarified his priority on the issue of guest and ad-hoc teachers. He instructed colleges to recruit for permanent positions regularly and to attempt academic appointments at least twice a year. Colleges requiring infrastructure improvements were asked to immediately apply for funds from HEFA (Higher Education Financing Agency). All colleges were also asked to appoint sports coaches to improve sports facilities.
9 New PG Medical Courses at Northern Railway Hospital
The Delhi University Academic Council has given the green light to the commencement of 9 new postgraduate medical courses at the Indian Railways Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (IRPGIMSR) at the Northern Railway Central Hospital. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh stated that these medical courses have been approved by Delhi University. However, their commencement will depend on the approval of the National Medical Commission (NMC). You can check the new medical courses and their seats below:

New Guidelines for PhD Coursework
To eliminate variations in the pattern of PhD coursework across various departments of Delhi University, DU has approved new guidelines. According to Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, a total of 12 to 16 credits will now be mandatory for PhD coursework. A major aspect of these new guidelines is that the teaching hours for coursework will now be included in the faculty workload.
Subjects and Credits included in the Coursework:
Research Methodology and Advanced Research Methodology: 4 credits
Research Publication Ethics: 2 credits
Research Tools: 2 credits
Discipline-Specific Elective Course: 4 credits
An additional 4 credits as needed (for specialized area)
Rules for Faculty Travel Grants
DU has also established a stricter process for travel grants for faculty members presenting papers at national/international conferences. This grant will now only be given to faculty members who present papers at prestigious institutions ranked in the top 500 QS/top 500 THE World Rankings or top 100 NIRF rankings. Additionally, conferences whose proceedings are published in journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science will also be recognized.
