There is important news for students completing the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). Delhi University (DU) has introduced a new rule regarding higher education for students who complete this four-year undergraduate course. Under the new rule, students can enroll directly in a PhD program without first completing a postgraduate degree. DU is launching this special initiative starting from the 2026-27 academic session.

**Eligibility Criteria for PhD Admission**
The option to enroll in a PhD program immediately after graduation will be available only to students who complete the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).
To qualify for admission, General category candidates must secure a CGPA of 7.5 in the FYUP, while SC and ST category candidates must secure a CGPA of 7.0.
The first batch of students enrolled in the four-year undergraduate program is set to complete the course this year (2026), thereby gaining the opportunity to enroll in a PhD program.

**When Did the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme Begin?**
DU launched the first batch of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP)—aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020)—in the 2022-23 academic session. This batch, which began in 2022, is concluding this year. A total of 75,948 students had enrolled in the program; of these, 40,005 students obtained a three-year degree in 2025, while 35,943 students opted to complete the four-year degree.

**Why Was This System Introduced?**
According to information shared by DU, this system has been introduced with the interests of FYUP students in mind. Upon completing the four-year undergraduate program, students will be able to enroll directly in a PhD program. Furthermore, DU has clarified that completing a Master's degree is not mandatory for PhD admission.
