Delhi School Alert: In view of the rising temperatures and the potential heatwave situation in Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Yellow Alert.' Consequently, the Education Department has implemented strict guidelines for all schools to ensure the safety and health of students. According to these directives, outdoor assemblies in schools will either be completely suspended or restricted to shaded or indoor areas for a limited duration. Furthermore, holding classes in open spaces has also been prohibited.

To protect students from the heat, a "Water Bell" system has been introduced, under which children will be reminded to drink water every 45 to 60 minutes.
School administrations have been instructed to ensure that cool and safe drinking water is available at multiple locations within the campus. Additionally, students have been advised to carry an adequate supply of water with them. To raise awareness regarding protection against heatwaves, IEC (Information, Education, Communication) materials will be displayed at prominent locations within schools. Special sessions will also be organized to educate students about the symptoms of heatwaves, preventive measures, and the importance of hydration.

**"Buddy System" Implemented**

As a significant measure, a "Buddy System" has been implemented, wherein students will be paired up so they can monitor each other's health. If a student begins to feel unwell, the teacher or the administration can be informed immediately. Given the severe heat, outdoor sports and other outdoor activities have been completely suspended. Schools have also been directed to regularly share the latest advisories from the IMD, along with updates related to the heatwave, with parents via WhatsApp groups.

**Advisory for Parents**

Parents have been advised to send their children to school dressed in light, cotton clothing and to ensure their personal hygiene is maintained. A nodal teacher will be appointed in every school to oversee the effective implementation of all these guidelines. All schools must mandatorily submit a report on compliance with these directives by May 2, 2026, to ensure that there are no lapses in student safety.
