Delhi School Admission: Nursery admissions are set to begin in Delhi schools. Forms can be submitted at all schools starting December 4th. This time, the government has stated that the entire process will be online, saving parents the hassle of running around schools. People are making a list of their preferred schools for their children's admission and hoping to secure a seat. There are several types of quotas for admission in Delhi schools, including a management quota. Under this quota, schools can allocate seats as per their own discretion.

What is the Management Quota?

The management quota in Delhi schools has been a topic of debate for several years. Parents allege that admissions are rigged using the management quota. Schools have also been accused of selling seats for exorbitant amounts of money. In 2016, the Kejriwal government attempted to discontinue it, but the Delhi High Court ordered its continuation. Since then, schools have been granting admissions under this quota every year.

How many seats are reserved?

In Delhi, schools can reserve 5 to 20 percent of seats under the management quota. This means that if a school has 100 admissions, 20 seats can be reserved under the management quota. Schools allocate these seats at their discretion. Some schools also include teachers or staff in this quota. Because the rules regarding the management quota are unclear, it is always subject to question.

Separate quota for EWS (Employees' Union)

In addition to the management quota, all schools in Delhi are required to reserve 25 percent of seats for children in the EWS category, i.e., poor children. Every school must adhere to this requirement, and these seats cannot be given to any other child. Furthermore, children with siblings already studying at the school receive priority. Children living the shortest distance from their homes to the school also have the highest chances of admission. Children in the special category are also given preference.
