There's good news for parents living in Delhi. Financially disadvantaged and needy families will now be able to easily enroll their children in private schools. The Delhi government's Directorate of Education has launched an online admission portal for the EWS, DG, and CWSN categories for the 2026-27 academic year. This system allows parents to apply from home and eliminates the need to travel to schools. This initiative is considered a significant step towards making education more accessible and transparent.

Launch of Online Portal
The Delhi government's Directorate of Education has launched an online portal for admissions to private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. This facility will be applicable for admissions to nursery, kindergarten, and grade 1. The entire process will now be completed digitally, saving both time and effort.

Who will benefit?
This facility is available to children from three main categories:

EWS (Economically Weaker Section): Families with an annual income of less than ₹2.5 lakh.
DG (Disadvantaged Group): Includes SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), orphans, transgender children, and HIV-affected children.
CWSN (Children with Disabilities): Children with special needs are included in this category.

How to Apply?

Parents must fill out the online form by visiting the official website, edudel.nic.in. Required documents, such as an Aadhaar card (if available), residence certificate, income certificate, or caste certificate, must be prepared when applying. The information provided must be accurate, as any inaccuracy may result in the application being rejected.

Transparent Lottery System
25 percent of seats in private schools are reserved for these categories. Admissions will be conducted through a computer-based lottery system, ensuring a fair and transparent process. The list of selected students will be released on the portal, and parents will be notified.

Important Advice for Parents
The Education Department has urged parents not to wait for the deadline and to apply on time. After submitting the form, keep a copy of it. In case of any problems, they can contact the nearest help desk or the Education Department office. This new system is an important step towards providing equal opportunities for quality education to children in need.
