CTET 2026: Do you also need a helper to write the CTET exam? Learn about all the important conditions set by CBSE..
CTET 2026 Guidelines: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released guidelines for candidates with disabilities (PwD) appearing for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) scheduled for February 7th and 8th, 2026. These rules apply to candidates who require a scribe or writer to take the exam due to physical limitations. The board has clarified that all eligible candidates with disabilities will be provided with appropriate facilities and extra time during the examination.
According to the CBSE CTET guidelines, candidates seeking scribe assistance must complete certain mandatory procedures before the exam. This includes several standards, ranging from the validity of the medical certificate to the educational qualifications of the scribe. CBSE has also ensured that these rules are strictly followed at the examination centers to prevent any irregularities. If you or someone you know is appearing for the exam under this category, it is essential to understand these rules thoroughly.
Who can avail of the scribe facility in the CTET exam?
According to CBSE rules, candidates with a disability of 40 percent or more and who are unable to write themselves can avail of the scribe facility. For this, the candidate must have a valid disability certificate issued by a competent medical authority. Candidates with categories such as blindness, locomotor disability (affecting both hands), and cerebral palsy are given priority for this facility.
Eligibility Standards for the Scribe
Candidates can bring their own scribe or request one from the examination center. However, the scribe's educational qualification should be lower than the level of the examination being taken by the candidate. For example, if you are appearing for Paper-2 (Classes 6-8), your scribe should not possess the same level of qualification. During the CTET exam, the scribe will only be allowed to write what the candidate dictates.
How much extra time will be given?
To ensure that candidates with disabilities do not face a time crunch, CBSE has made arrangements for 'compensatory time'. PwD candidates who use a scribe or have difficulty writing themselves will be given an additional 20 minutes per hour. This means that instead of the 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) allotted for the CTET exam, these eligible candidates will receive a total of 50 minutes of extra time.
Documents and Procedure Required for Scribe
Candidates must visit the examination center at least two days before the exam and inform the Center Superintendent. They must also submit copies of their scribe's photograph, identity card, and educational qualification certificates. The PwD category should be clearly mentioned on the CTET admit card. If a candidate brings their own scribe, they will also have to provide an undertaking stating that the scribe has provided accurate information.
CTET 2026: Essential Checklist for PwD Candidates
Medical Certificate: A valid original certificate of disability of 40% or more issued by a competent medical authority (CMO/Civil Surgeon).
Scribe's Identity Proof: If you are bringing your own scribe, their Aadhaar card or any government-issued photo identity card.
Scribe's Qualification Proof: Certificate of the scribe's educational qualification (note that this should be lower than your qualification).
Passport Size Photographs: Recent passport-size photographs of both the candidate and the scribe (at least 2 copies each).
Undertaking: A duly filled and signed undertaking in the format prescribed by CBSE.
Admit Card: Check your CTET admit card to ensure that the PwD category and the ‘Scribe Required’ option are correctly marked.
Information at the Center: Inform the Center Superintendent in writing at least two days before the CTET exam.
Extra Time: Ensure that you are being given 20 minutes of extra time per hour (total 50 minutes).
Keep these points in mind.
Your seating arrangement should be on the ground floor. If not, inform the center staff immediately.
The examination center cannot demand any extra money from you for a scribe or special arrangements. Visually impaired candidates can carry a magnifying glass (without any electronic components) with them.
The CBSE has instructed all examination centers to arrange seating for candidates with disabilities on the ground floor. The availability of ramps or lifts at the center will help candidates avoid difficulties.
