Competitive Exams PwD Rules: There's good news for candidates with disabilities. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) has issued a new order stating that candidates will now be able to hire their own scribe for all competitive exams scheduled until December 31, 2025. This feature was previously discontinued under a rule issued on August 1, 2025, but following clarification from the department, the Commission has decided to reinstate it.

New Age Limit for Self-Scribes
The Commission has reinstated the "self-scribe" feature and set new age requirements. The scribe brought by the candidate must now meet the established age criteria. The age of the scribe is determined according to their educational qualifications – for example, the maximum age for a matriculate scribe is 20 years, for a 10+2 scribe is 20 years, and for a graduate scribe is 22 years. This will ensure that scribes appear in the examination only for assistance and not for unfair advantage.

Aadhaar Authentication Now Mandatory
Under the new system, Aadhaar-based authentication of every 'own scribe' will now be mandatory at the time of examination. If a scribe fails to provide Aadhaar authentication or is found ineligible, the candidate will have to either accept a scribe provided by the Commission or forfeit the scribe facility.

All other terms and conditions will remain as per the Commission's Scribe Procedure Notification dated October 25, 2024, and DEPwD's guidelines dated August 29, 2018, and August 10, 2022.
