Under the revised regulations at Calcutta University, students can earn up to 5 marks based on their attendance. Changes have also been introduced to the methods for calculating internal assessment marks and grade points.

Calcutta University has updated its undergraduate regulations for the 2026-27 academic session. These updates cover rules regarding attendance-based marks, internal assessments, and the calculation of grade points. The university announced these changes through two official notifications concerning its three-year and four-year undergraduate programs.

The notifications detail the revised rules for students appearing in semester examinations. Under these updated regulations, students can receive up to five marks for each paper in every semester, based on their attendance. Additionally, the procedures for determining internal assessment marks and calculating grade points have been modified.

According to the university, students can earn five marks for their attendance in each paper per semester. Furthermore, the university has updated the regulations pertaining to internal assessments as part of its broader examination-related reforms. The methodology used for calculating grade points has also been revised.

Under the new rules, students will be awarded a maximum of five marks based on their attendance. This initiative is intended to encourage students to attend classes regularly. The university has also advised students to visit its official website to review the specific details relevant to their respective programs.

In short, under the revised regulations, students can secure up to five marks based on their regular attendance in classes. Under this system, an attendance of 90% or more will earn five marks; 80% to 89% attendance will earn 4 marks; 75% to 79% will earn 3 marks; 60% to 74% will earn 2 marks; and attendance below 60% will result in zero marks.

Furthermore, in this evaluation system, students who secure 90 marks or more are awarded a higher grade, while those who score less than 30 are placed in the 'fail' category. Students scoring between 80 and 89 marks are placed in the 'excellence' category. Consequently, earning extra marks based on attendance will be significant—not just for the learning process itself, but also for the students' semester results.

In addition to attendance, the university has also introduced changes to internal assessments and grade points. For a standard theory paper worth 75 marks, 50 marks are allocated for the end-of-semester examination. Of the remaining 25 marks, 20 are assigned to internal assessments, and 5 are based on attendance. However, the distribution of marks may vary across different academic programs.
