The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a new online examination for counselors and wellness teachers working in schools. This examination is being conducted under a system of ‘Remote Invigilation’—that is, remote supervision. Its objective is to establish a more effective counseling framework for students within schools. This examination forms part of CBSE’s Capacity Building Program, designed to assess the extent of counselors' competence in understanding and addressing the mental and emotional challenges faced by students. Approximately 10,000 counselors are expected to participate in this process, which will be conducted in various phases.

The first batch of this examination commenced in February 2026. A distinctive feature of this assessment is that it evaluates not merely theoretical knowledge but also the counselors' demeanor, skill sets, and operational approach within a school environment; in essence, it observes how they make decisions and provide assistance to students in real-world scenarios.

Examination Conducted on a Digital Platform
This examination is being administered on an AI-based digital platform named ‘DIGI-EXAM.’ The platform facilitates online invigilation, thereby ensuring that the examination remains entirely secure and transparent. Through the application of AI technology, the process ensures that all participants are evaluated fairly and impartially.

CBSE’s Directives to Schools
According to CBSE, this new system constitutes a robust and reliable assessment mechanism designed for the future, aimed at establishing uniform standards across all schools. The Board has issued directives to all schools, mandating the participation of their respective counselors in this examination. Furthermore, schools have been instructed to keep their counselors' details updated on the ‘OASIS’ portal to prevent any administrative discrepancies. Overall, this initiative by CBSE is being hailed as a significant step toward enhancing the mental well-being of students within the school ecosystem.
