There was an allegation of removal of Punjabi language
The move came after several leaders in Punjab accused the CBSE of removing Punjabi from its draft policy. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains criticized the CBSE and alleged that the board was planning to remove Punjabi as a second language in class 10 and 12 examinations.
Earlier, CBSE on Tuesday proposed a major reform in the class 10 examination system, planning to conduct two board exams from the 2025-26 academic session. The move is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to reduce academic pressure on students and provide them another opportunity to improve their marks.
Feedback sought from schools, teachers, parents and students
The proposal was discussed in a high-level meeting on Tuesday, in which it was finalized under the chairmanship of the Union Minister of Education Ministry and the draft policy was uploaded on the CBSE website. This draft policy will be available to take feedback from schools, teachers, parents and students till March 9, 2025.
NEP 2020 recommends conducting class 10 and 12 board examinations twice a year, so that the stress of the students can be reduced and they get more opportunities to improve. It emphasizes on ability-based assessment instead of rote learning, so that students can achieve their best marks and the examination can be made more flexible and student-friendly.
