CBSE has issued a notice to promote digital payments. The Board has clarified that the aim of this initiative is to encourage the adoption and implementation of digital payments across the entire education ecosystem, which includes schools, students, and parents.
Three measures to promote digital payments, including UPI
CBSE has recommended adopting three measures, including UPI, to promote digital payments. This advisory is intended for all affiliated schools and parents. Let us explore the three measures suggested by CBSE:
UPI: CBSE has recommended adopting the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for payments related to school fees, canteens, libraries, and other services. Schools have been advised to provide digital payment facilities—including UPI and RuPay cards—at all payment touchpoints. Additionally, schools located in areas with poor connectivity have been advised to offer facilities such as UPI Lite, UPI LiteX, and UPI 123PAY.
BBPS Integration for Fee Payment: Furthermore, schools have been advised to integrate with the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to ensure a standardized, secure, and interoperable fee collection process. Schools have been advised that they can integrate with ERP systems to streamline recurring payments, such as staff salaries.
Awareness and Digital Literacy: CBSE has stated that awareness regarding digital payments should be incorporated into teacher training programs and school-level campaigns. Additionally, awareness campaigns for parents can be conducted to promote safe and convenient usage.
