CBSE: Strict instructions from CBSE, 75% attendance mandatory for 10th and 12th board exams..

CBSE: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a new directive, in which it has been clarified that the students of classes 10 and 12 will be able to appear in the board examination only if they have at least 75% attendance. This directive is part of the already issued circular of 9 October 2024, and its purpose is to ensure compliance with Rules 13 and 14 of the Examination Bye-laws. The directive states that schools will have to maintain the exact attendance register every day. This register should be signed by the class teacher and the principal. These records can be checked by CBSE at any time.
It is further stated that if the attendance of a student is not regular, it will be mandatory for the school to inform the parents through registered post or email. The record of this communication should be kept safe in the school.
School recognition may be canceled.
In what cases will an exemption be given?
Exemption will be given only for special reasons, such as: prolonged or serious illness, death of mother or father, any serious family emergency, or participation in a national or international sports competition. For this, a medical certificate/death certificate/sports authority certificate, and a school recommendation will be required along with the written application.
Last date
The complete file, along with all the documents should be submitted to the concerned CBSE regional office by 7 January 2026. Delayed or incomplete cases will not be accepted. Once the record is sent to CBSE, no changes can be made in it.
