CBSE: Making amendments to certificates will be more expensive, with a fee of Rs 5,000 being charged instead of Rs 1,000..
It will now be more expensive for students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to make corrections to their name, parents' name, and date of birth in their certificates. The CBSE has increased the correction fee from 2026. Under this increase, students will now have to pay a fee of ₹5,000 for corrections. The CBSE's governing body approved the recommendations of the Examination Committee. Previously, students had to pay ₹1,000 as a correction fee.
According to the CBSE, schools are advised to exercise extreme caution when preparing the list of candidates for 10th and 12th grades every year to ensure no errors are made and that students' mark sheets and certificates are issued with correct details. The CBSE issues ten to fifteen reminders for this purpose. Despite this, the Board's regional offices have received requests for changes to demographic details (student's name, parent's name) and date of birth.
It has also been observed that when requests for corrections to demographic details are incomplete, the documents are incomplete, or unclear, students approach the court and file legal notices. In the past two years, CBSE regional offices have received 2,535 correction requests from the Panchkula region, 3,340 from Patna, 6,411 from Prayagraj, 3,986 from Ajmer, and 710 from Chennai. According to the board, after the correction fee was increased to ₹1,000, a large number of people continued to apply for corrections to their details.
In light of this, the board has increased the correction fee. The board's management committee approved the recommendations of the examination committee. Now, the correction fee for students graduating from 2026 will be ₹5,000, with an additional ₹1,000 for each additional year of delay. The board has clarified that the old ₹1,000 fee will remain applicable for students graduating by 2025.
