CBSE law syllabus: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced major changes to make the Legal Studies subject of classes 11 and 12 relevant. After the approval of the governing body in June 2025, students will now be taught important legal reforms such as the Triple Talaq law, Indian Justice Code (BNS), Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS), Indian Evidence Act (BSA), abolition of sedition law, and removal of Section 377.

Under these changes, new provisions will be added to replace old colonial-era laws, recent Supreme Court landmark decisions, and modern legal principles. This update will be in line with the comprehensive legal reforms implemented in 2023–24, in which the IPC, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act were completely replaced.

CBSE will take help for the new syllabus

CBSE will take the help of an expert committee and a content development agency to implement the new syllabus from the 2026–27 session. Legal Studies, which was introduced in Class 11 in 2013 and Class 12 in 2014, has now become popular among students seeking careers in law, public policy, and administration.

These courses will also be updated

Along with this, vocational courses like Taxation and Financial Markets Management will also be updated in collaboration with ICAI and NSE, which are targeted to be ready by November 2025.
