CBSE Issues Strict Warning to Schools: Errors in Student Details on Exam Forms Could Attract Extra Fees

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a stern advisory to schools for the academic session 2025–26. The board has made it clear that any mistakes while submitting student details for the List of Candidates (LOC)—a mandatory process before board examinations—will lead to additional charges for corrections. Schools have been urged to exercise extreme caution while filling in these details, as errors could directly impact students during their Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations.

CBSE’s Advisory to Schools

According to the official notification, the information provided in the LOC must match exactly with the student’s admission records maintained by the school. This includes:

  • Correct spelling of names

  • Accurate date of birth

  • Proper subject codes

The board warned that inaccuracies in these details could cause serious issues at examination centres. In fact, CBSE stressed that it does not want students to suffer at the time of the exam because of errors that could easily be avoided at the school level.

Correction Window and Extra Fee

CBSE has also announced that a correction window will be available from October 13 to October 27, 2025, through the official website (cbse.gov.in). Schools will be able to rectify mistakes during this period, but they will be required to pay an additional fee for every correction made.

After submitting the corrected data, schools can generate a verification slip for each student. If any further errors are spotted at this stage, another opportunity for updating the information will be provided within the same correction window.

Subject Codes to Be Entered Carefully

One of the most common errors reported in previous years has been the incorrect selection of subject codes. To address this, CBSE has reminded schools to be extra cautious while entering subject details. The official list of subject codes has been provided, and schools must ensure accurate entries so that students appear in the correct exams.

For Class 10, some key subject codes are:

  • Hindi-A: 002

  • Hindi-B: 085

  • Urdu-A: 003

  • Urdu-B: 303

  • Mathematics (Standard): 041

  • Mathematics (Basic): 241

For Class 12, important subject codes include:

  • Hindi Core: 302

  • Hindi Elective: 002

  • English Core: 301

  • English Elective: 001

  • Sanskrit Core: 322

  • Sanskrit Elective: 022

  • Urdu Core: 303

  • Urdu Elective: 003

  • Mathematics: 041

  • Applied Mathematics: 241

CBSE emphasized that if wrong subject codes are entered, students may end up being assigned the wrong examination papers—a mistake that cannot be reversed later.

Rules Also Apply to Classes 9 and 11

Interestingly, these rules are not limited to board classes. The same caution applies to Class 9 and Class 11 registration forms, where names, dates of birth, and subject codes must also be entered without error. Schools will be given the same correction window (October 13–27) to fix mistakes, again with additional charges for corrections.

Possible Consequences for Errors

CBSE has highlighted the consequences of errors in student details:

  • Rejection of exam forms if critical information is inaccurate.

  • Additional financial burden on schools due to correction fees.

  • Wrong subject allocation, which could force students to appear for exams in the wrong subjects.

Tips for Schools and Students

To prevent such issues, CBSE has suggested the following steps:

  • Schools must cross-check every detail—name, date of birth, and subject codes—against the official school admission records before submitting LOC data.

  • Students and parents should also verify their details with schools to ensure accuracy.

  • Regularly check cbse.gov.in for updates and instructions related to the LOC process.

  • Use the correction window responsibly between October 13–27, 2025, if any errors are found.

Final Word

With over 30 lakh students expected to appear for the 2026 board examinations, CBSE is aiming to streamline the pre-exam process by holding schools accountable for accuracy in student records. The warning is clear: mistakes in the LOC will not only cause unnecessary stress for students but will also cost schools extra money. By following the guidelines carefully, schools can avoid penalties and ensure that students face no hurdles on the day of their board examinations.
