CBSE: How many CBSE schools are there in West Asia, and what books do children read there? Learn how studies are conducted..
The ongoing tensions and military activities in many parts of the Middle East are clearly impacting normal life. Public activities have been restricted in many areas due to security concerns, and educational institutions have been temporarily closed. This situation has also impacted the education of the Indian community and their children living there.
Few people know that many countries in the Gulf region operate schools affiliated with India's Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). These schools serve a large number of Indian students, whose education is being affected by the current situation.
Presence of CBSE Schools in Gulf Countries
According to data shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in 2023, a total of 217 schools are affiliated with the CBSE in major Middle Eastern countries. All these institutions follow the Board's prescribed curriculum and examination system.
The country-wise numbers are as follows:
United Arab Emirates - 106 schools
Saudi Arabia - 37 schools
Kuwait - 26 schools
Oman - 21 schools
Qatar - 19 schools
Bahrain - 8 schools
These institutions enroll thousands of students, and most are run by the Indian community.
Teaching Methodology and Facilities
The teaching methodology in these schools is similar to that of Indian schools. NCERT textbooks are used in classes, and examinations are conducted in accordance with CBSE guidelines.
Many schools are equipped with modern facilities, including smart classrooms, well-stocked libraries, science laboratories, and playgrounds. Cultural and sports activities are also regularly organized for the all-round development of students.
Impact on Examinations
In view of the prevailing circumstances, CBSE has decided to postpone the examinations scheduled for March 2, 5, and 6, 2026, in some countries. This decision has been implemented in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. A decision regarding the March 7th exam will depend on the situation.
The board clarified that this step has been taken as a precautionary measure. The exams have not been cancelled; new dates will be announced later.
