CBSE has issued a new circular; students in Class 9 for the 2026-27 academic session will not be required to study these 3 subjects..
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced changes to the syllabus for students currently in Class 9 for the 2026-27 academic session. A circular issued by the Board on October 29 states that topics such as 'Individuals in Society', 'Computational Thinking', and 'AI' (Artificial Intelligence) have been removed from the Class 9 syllabus.
Furthermore, when this same cohort of students reaches the 2027-28 academic session—the year they will appear for their board examinations—they will no longer be required to study 'Environmental Education'. It should be noted that this rule does not apply to students currently enrolled in Class 10.
**Five Subjects to be Studied in Class 10**
According to the new circular issued by the CBSE, students in Class 10 during the 2027-28 academic session will be required to take examinations in five subjects: Mathematics, Science, Social Science, First Language (L-1), and Second Language (L-2). Students currently in Class 9 will be assessed in these five subjects during their Class 10 board examinations next year. Additionally, students will have the option to select an elective subject.
**Skill Education Made Mandatory**
The CBSE has also released a list of 'Skill Education' subjects. Students may choose one subject from the 22 available options, which include Retail, Information Technology, Security, Automotive, Financial Markets, Introduction to Tourism, Beauty and Wellness, Agriculture, Food Production, Front Office Operations, Banking and Insurance, and Marketing and Sales.
**Option to Choose Advanced Mathematics and Science**
For students with a keen interest in Mathematics and Science, the CBSE has provided the option to select these subjects at an 'Advanced' level. Students may choose one of these as an elective subject alongside their other core subjects.
